Tutor English to a family in France
Experience life in France and immerse yourself into the French culture
Culture Lingua offers you an affordable program that will give you the opportunity to discover the real France more than you would as a tourist.
You will have a lot of free time to experience the culture, make new friends, improve your French and explore the surroundings. Culture Lingua spends a great deal of time on match-making, we screen and select ourselves all our host families and therefore get know them personally. We will find you the host family that best match your profile and availability. Moreover, unlike other organizations, you don’t have to pay anything when you apply. The programs fees are due only after we find you a host family. - Be patient with the people you will be tutoring

Sleeping late everyday, spending your days in your room and not being accessible to the family is not respectful. Nor is it respectful to be on the Internet or your cell phone most of the time.
What are the dates of the program?
We accept applications on a rolling basis. There is no set start or end date – Host families enroll in the program all year round.
How does the application process work?
Submitting your application is completely free.
Please note that we usually know our host families availability 2 to 3 months before they wish to welcome a tutor.
We accept applications from 6 months before you wish to start your placement.
If you want to participate in our program please send us a message using the "become a tutor" tab.
We will answer your questions and ask your availability for a Skype call. This will be the opportunity to answer all your questions about the program and get to know you better in order to find the host family that best suits you.
We will then send you the application form.
Once we have received your application form, we will start searching for a host family that best matches your profile and availability. ( Please note this could take from a few weeks to a few months, depending how long in advance you apply and our host families availability)
As soon as we have found you a host family, we will send you full details about them as well as pictures and their introduction letter. Only then you will be ask to proceed with the program fees in order to be put in contact with your host family to get to know each other and organize you arrival.
Do I need a TEFL certification or teaching experience to apply?
No, but it's helpful to have, especially if you're planning to teach abroad again after your program.
The english lessons tend to be informal and conversation based.
There is no pre-determined curriculum; however participants should be prepared to put together a lesson plan for each tutoring session if needed. Culture Lingua will provide you with a tutor guidebook where you will find resources to help you develop ideas for the lessons.
Typically families are looking for you to speak English with them over dinner and week ends or for a certain amount of time during the day.
The level of English will vary depending on the host family but most will be at the beginner level and will only have basic knowledge of English.
Do I need to speak French to be eligible?
While it is not a requirement that participants speak french, it is recommended that you try to learn some basic words and phrases before arriving. It always makes your life easier if you speak a bit of the local language.
Do I need a visa?
You will not need a work visa for this program as it is a volunteer placement, all you need is a valid passport.
EU citizens can freely travel and live anywhere in Europe.
Non-EU citizens from the USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand do not need visas to enter France and are permitted to stay for up to 90 days (90 day visa waiver).
